Unearthing a Legacy

A Diary in Sound: The Life and Music of Dick Kattenburg

Born in Amsterdam in 1919, Dick Kattenburg was a gifted young composer whose vibrant music blended classical traditions with the rhythms and harmonies of jazz. His promising career was cut short when he was deported to Auschwitz in 1944. He left behind more than two dozen music manuscripts that remained largely forgotten for decades.

Drawing on rare photographs, personal letters, historical records, and the music itself, A Diary in Sound reconstructs the remarkable life and legacy of a composer whose work is only now beginning to receive the recognition it deserves.
